Local school children spread Christmas cheer to care home residents
20 December 2021
Children from a primary school in Fradley have been busy spreading Christmas cheer by creating handmade Christmas cards for residents of a local care home.
Residents at Bowbrook, Dementia Centre of Excellence in Fradley, owned by housing and care provider GreenSquareAccord, received the thoughtful festive greetings this week when they were hand delivered by the headteacher of St Stephen’s Primary School.
Mike Dowd, Headteacher at St Stephen's Primary School said: “We were really pleased to be able to bring a Christmas smile to the residents of Bowbrook this year. Having been a difficult year for us all, the children at St. Stephen’s have thoroughly enjoyed being able to give something back to the community and hope that this friendship will continue into the new year and beyond.”
Amanda Jelbert, Registered Manager at Bowbrook said: “Our residents were absolutely delighted to receive the handmade cards and to be thought of by the local school children. It was such a special moment for our staff to be able to surprise them with the cards.
“We recognise the benefits that intergenerational activities bring to both our residents and children and look forward to developing a relationship with the younger people within our local community.”
