International Reggae artist, Macka B, is paying a special visit to Bilston next week when he officially launches the town’s first internet café.

The Gazebo Theatre in Education Company internet café in Bilston Town Hall offers local unemployed people the opportunity to get online, learn new skills and find work. It’s free to attend and staff are in hand to offer help and advice on job searching and give advice on filling in application forms and creating CVs.

The café forms part of the Working Together programme, which aims to increase the employability of long term unemployed and economically inactive social housing tenants, with support designed to address specific barriers based on individual needs. The programme includes mentoring, online job searches as well as support with CV writing, hands on IT training, and opportunities to discuss career development.

Tonia Daley-Campbell, Project Manager and Lead Mentor at Gazebo Theatre in Education Company said: “We are really excited to welcome Macka B to our official opening of our internet café next week. Macka is no stranger to Bilston, having won a DJ competition here in 1983, which kick started his amazing music career. It’s great that he’s back, demonstrating his support for the town, and recognising this worthwhile service.”
The Accord Group is the lead delivery partner of the wider City Deal programme and the ‘Working Together’ pilot project aims to increase the employability and employment of 2,800 long-term unemployed and economically inactive Black Country social housing tenants and move 900 of them into work over a three year delivery period. The pilot operates within Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell and Bilston East area of Wolverhampton.

The official opening of the Gazebo Theatre in Education Company internet café will also include live entertainment, tasting dishes, and the launch of the highly anticipated community cookbook ‘A Taste of Bilston.’ Local people, community groups, businesses, housing associations and referral agencies are welcome to attend and get involved by contacting Gazebo Theatre on 01902 497222.
